Summer Undergraduate Research Fellows (SURF)
Interning at The Wertheim UF Scripps Institute
The Wertheim UF Scripps Institute provides career-launching lab research opportunities for undergraduate students who want to experience biomedical research and gain exposure to the experience of a research-focused graduate student. Our campus has hosted the National Science Foundation’s REU-Research Experience for Undergraduates internship program for nearly 10 years. The program’s alumni have gone on to fulfilling STEM careers in academia and industry, with many pursuing doctoral studies in computational biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, structural and RNA biology.
The goals of The Wertheim UF Scripps Institute’s SURF program are to expose the next generation of scientists to the breadth of biomedical career opportunities, and to introduce them to the world-class quality of the graduate training program here. Our scientists are leaders in their fields who prioritize mentoring and education. We welcome students from underrepresented and underserved populations, including those who are the first in their family to go to college or who attend institutions with limited research opportunities.
