The 2027 Innovation Lectures

The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation & Technology is pleased to announce that its 2027 public lecture series will cover two timely issues: finding new treatments for viral diseases, and exploring how new technologies are transforming scientific research.

All are welcome. There’s no charge to attend the 2027 Innovation Lectures, but reservations are requested, as space is limited.

The topic of The Wertheim UF Scripps Institute’s first Innovation Lecture of 2027 will be, “Outsmarting Viruses: Building New Weapons in Our Arsenal Against Infectious Disease.”

The event will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, at The Wertheim UF Scripps Institute’s headquarters, 120 Scripps Way, Jupiter, Florida, in the Rodney B. Fink Auditorium. It will be followed by a reception in the nearby cafe from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Speakers include Immunology and Microbiology Department Chair Susana Valente, Ph.D., medicinal chemist Thomas Bannister, Ph.D.; and virologist Mauricio Martins, Ph.D.

The second lecture, “Science: The Next Wave,” will look at how emerging technologies are transforming the quest for cures. It takes place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 4. A reception will follow.

Researchers will discuss how they use computational approaches including machine learning and artificial intelligence, and invent new methods and technologies, in the quest to discover new ways to fight incurable and chronic diseases.

Both of the 2027 Innovation Lectures will take place at the institute’s headquarters, 120 Scripps Way, Jupiter, Florida, 33458.
